For this project report about Santiago Calatrava, i chose The Jerusalem Chords Bridge to be my subject. The Jerusalem Chords Bridge, also called the Jerusalem Light Rail Bridge or Jerusalem Bridge of Strings is located at the capital of Israel--Jerusalem. As a bridge, it can let pedestrians and Bicycles pass, and it's also a part of Jerusalem Light Rail's line. It is helpful for the traffic of Jerusalem. In fact, the construction purpose of the building is not only for the practical use but also for visual arts. So, Israel's government had spared no expense to invite Santiago Calatrava involved in the design. The final cost of the bridge is about $70 million (NIS 246 million). However actually, the estimate in the beginning is about NIS 129 million. its cost overruns make the actual cost nearly twice its original budget. Therefore, the construction project has attracted considerable public criticism for some time.

Left is Jerusalem Light Rail.

About the bridge's appearance, there have many different interpret from different people. Some people said it resemble a tent in the desert or a harp. Some people thought extension of the cables symbolize King David's harp. Others conjectured the looming pylon as an arrow caught in a bow, a human arm, etc. No matter what concept Santiago Calatrava would like to express form his work actually, a positive power has been turly brought on the land by his masterpiece. As the tallest building in Jerusalem, its landmark looks is really eye-catching, just like a skyline in the visual. For the appearance of it, I imagine there is a strong crossbow toward the sky. Countless slender cable seem to make the earth connect with the sky. I am really impressed.

I expect that one day I can become a person like Santiago Calatrava--a person who write poetry by buildings.
